AS I AM

You tell me to be me.
Just me.
Nothing else is that important.
"Just be yourself", you said.

So I have tried,
Sometimes succeeding.
Sometimes fraught with impatience.
Seeking myself.
The who-I-am-now.
Made up from all the me in the past.
The Bohemian, the scatterbrain, the eccentric,
The flowery language writer, the campaigner,
The worrier, the seeker of justice, the thinker,
The ideas instigator, the backroom boy, the girl Friday,
The doer, the daydreamer, the responsible one,
The over-the-top enthusiast.
All combined in the me now.
You seem to like the me I am now.
Sometimes I ask, Am I deceiving us both? Should I start
To be the me who wants a quiet life?
As I seek myself, you are there under the same sky.
Accepting.
It really doesn't matter who or what the now me is.
You are there.
Just you.
Now that is important.
